Maddox-Hawes-Appreciation-Plaque

Chairman Pat Maddox and David Hawes, Executive Director, with appreciation plaque from Shadow Oaks Civic Association for our work in the area esplanades

In mobility planning and environmental and urban design, we have partnered with the city to enhance our major thoroughfare, Long Point Road. Planted and upgraded more than 70 esplanades, installed entryway monumentation and more is yet to come! In 2012 District Markers, 100 in all, will be installed in locations throughout the District and 46 additional esplanades will be enhanced. Improvements are also under way at the Center Point substation at the corner of Blalock and I-10. In a joint partnership with Center Point, the District will be improving the corner with the addition of new concrete panel fencing, a monument wall, and landscaping.

Westview Esplanades

The Spring Branch Management District and the Memorial Management District are working together to enhance the esplanades of our shared border on Westview west of Shadow Dale and east of Beltway 8. The Memorial Management District has agreed to provide the Spring Branch landscape design and infrastructure related to the irrigation system and the Spring Branch Management District will continue
the upkeep and maintenance of the esplanades.

Mobility and Transportation

The Spring Branch Management District is looking forward to improving the infrastructure of the area by working with various entities like METRO, the Texas Department of Transportation, Harris County, and the City of Houston to provide better and safer mobility into and out of the area.

Among the projects which are currently being looked at is the 290 corridor expansion which is slated to have a light commuter rail line running along Hempstead Road. The US 290 construction project seeks to improve your commute and enhance the surrounding community’s future. In order to keep the public informed of the program the website, http://www.my290.com, contains information regarding project phases, maps, animations, outreach and much more.

Additionally, we are looking into the possibility of adjusting, changing, or adding METRO bus routes to better serve the needs of the residents of the Spring Branch Management District.

Blalock and Long Point Paver Project

The City of Houston has begun begin work to widening the intersection of Blalock and Long Point. The Spring Branch Management District will be working with the city to install decorative paver to this intersection as was done on the Wirt Road Intersection.

Highway 290 ConstructionUntitled-4

The Houston region’s population is expected to grow by 64% between 2006 and 2035. In that time frame, the population of the US 290 corridor between IH 610 and FM 2920 will swell to an estimated 888,000. To accommodate this significant growth, the US 290 Program has developed a plan to increase highway capacity on US 290 and the Hempstead Tollway from the IH 610/US 290 interchange to FM 2920. The program includes the creation of:

  • 5-6 general-purpose lanes in each direction from IH 610 to SH 6
  • 4 general-purpose lanes in each direction from SH 6 to the proposed SH 99/Grand Parkway
  • 3 general-purpose lanes in each direction from the proposed SH 99/Grand Parkway to FM 2920
  • A 4 lane, two-way managed lanes facility along Hempstead Tollway from IH 610 to the proposed SH 99/Grand Parkway

Additionally, US 290 METRO HOV operations will be moved to Hempstead Tollway managed lanes, easing congestion on US 290.
