| Spring Branch Medical Center Reopened |
|
At the Spring Branch District we are thrilled to have the Spring Branch Hospital reopen and were pleased to welcome Mr. Marty McVey as a board member of the District. The path to reopen the hospital was a long one with many community and strategic partners working to showcase the opportunities created when HCA decided to close the hospital in May of 2010. Hospital officials at the time attributed the closing to operational losses. The hospital continued to operate radiation and imaging services and emergency care. In February of 2011, Houston-based McVey & Co. Investments LLC purchased HCA Gulf Coast-affiliated Spring Branch Medical Center located at 8850 Long Point Road. Marty McVey, chairman of the hospital, said he looks forward to running the facility at full capacity within a year and expects to employ more than 650, including clinical and support personnel. He added that more than 120 physicians are currently on staff, and the company will continue to recruit physicians. The grand reopening of the hospital took place on August 1st of this year with hundreds of community members in attendance. Mr. McVey shared that initially there will be 30 beds, but that he expects that number to reach 200 by next year. He anticipates the hospital will be running at full capacity within a year. The Spring Branch Medical Center was founded in 1958 and acquired by HCA in 1986. Spring Branch Medical Center was the first hospital outside the Texas Medical Center to perform open-heart surgery.
